Liberty Group honoured for health and safety
Liberty Group has been recognised for its commitment to health and safety.
The organisation was awarded the Gold Award at the 2018 RoSPA Awards.
The awards, run by the Royal Society of the Prevention of Accidents, recognise excellence in health safety across a range of industries.
As a national property service specialist working with a broad range of social landlords, local authorities, commercial and public sector clients and covering more than 220,000 properties across the country, Liberty puts the safety of its staff and those living in homes and communities where it operates at the heart of everything it does.
It’s great news that our efforts in the area of health and safety have been recognised. Health and safety is not just something we do at Liberty, it’s part of our culture and our heritage. Our staff receive all of the training and support that they need to be able to comply with regulations and deliver services in a way that will ensure their safety and the safety of the community.
New policies and processes introduced across its sites have seen incidents drop to an all-time low, with only one RIDDOR report submitted to the HSE since November 2014.
Liberty submits itself to an annual external health and safety audit every year across all of its sites. This includes interviews with residents living in properties inspected by Liberty to ensure that visits are being carried out to the highest standard.
James added: “We take these audits very seriously. We are always looking to improve.
“The audits are independent and we make sure we hear the views of residents living in the homes where we deliver servicing and repairs.
“The findings from these audits inform our training and toolbox talks to staff, and help us improve our policies and the services we provide.”
As part of its ongoing commitment to health and safety Liberty has named its first ever Safety Employee of the Year in 2017.
Engineer Stephen Thompson took home the prize, and was invited to collect the firm’s RoSPA award at the ceremony in Birmingham in July.
Liberty has supported Stephen in enrolling for his NEBOSH Certificate which provides training in health and safety for managers and staff who have health and safety as part of their role.
